About five years ago I weighed in at 110Kg and decided enough was enough, so what did one do…. I bought a bike. Within nine months I’d lost 35kg and had entered Around the Bay In A Day. My longest ride at 210km. Doing this then led me to enter 3 Peaks Falls Creek the next week. This is where the real love from cycling started. On completion of my 1st Peaks I went sub 10 hours and continued sub 10 hours for the next 2 years. Then, of course, I started looking for another challenge.
Not knowing what to do, I stumbled across the Hells 500 website and saw a challenge called Everesting. Climb 8848m elevation in one ride. “This will do”, I thought. Questions were asked and the most regular one was “Why would you do this?”…. Simple answer was “Why Not?”. Well 19 hours 300km and 8848 meters later, on a hot February day at Mt William Halls Gap, I could tick this one off the list.
Finishing off my Everesting 9:00pm
As much as I enjoy endurance rides, I love racing to sets all new challenges. Nothing is more challenging then the Melbourne to Warrnambool road race. Finishing this race in both 2015 and 2016, were on par with my Everesting and Peaks rides. Racing in massive head and cross winds over 270km, gives an all new meaning to tuff racing. But it’s a race which I’ll be back again for at some stage.
Riding is a big part of my life which has now led into triathlons and August this year will be my first Half Ironman event, to lead into a full Ironman later 2019, for a little bit more of a challenge. While looking on Facebook one day and seeing Revolve24 pop up, I straight away went to the page to see what this was all about. First thought was WOW, I’ve got to give this a go, ride for 24 hours, that’s insane.
So. my entry is in and March 2019 will stand as being my biggest personal challenge to complete. Already excitement and nervousness are starting to loom. So, “bring it on”. I can’t wait. I know the questions will be asked again “WHY?!?” and simply the answer once again will be “Why not, aye?”
See you at the Bend Motorsport Park.Back to R24 CC
