Shira and Jared Busan are two Americans, living in South Korea, who have entered Revolve24 at The Bend in the 12hr solo and 24hr solo respectively. It will be their first time ever in Australia and obviously when you visit a country for a first time you have to squeeze in an endurance cycling challenge!!!
What a story!
“Greetings from South Korea! We live two hours south of Seoul, near the town of Pyeongtaek. Jared is a helicopter pilot in the US Army, and I'm a lunatic knitter/cyclist/grad student/wife. We are both endurance junkies because it justifies our love of food.
Jared grew up cycling, but I learned as an adult...think 36 years old before I learned how to stand up on a bicycle and pedal, much less shift. My first "real" year of cycling (and living in Korea), we tackled the country's 4 Rivers Cycling path (see the picture below). We had a blast cycling all over South Korea and sampling every rest stop and gas station goodie we could get our hands on. Now, with that completed, we occupy our time finding cute cafe stops--like the Honey Bee cafe near our home!
We met during an ultra-running race, did a bunch of running events together and it has gradually morphed into long distance cycling. Jared has done a bunch of 24 hours running races and was intrigued by the idea of a 24 hour cycling race. I am properly terrified, but excited about this race...pretty typical.
We will be leaving South Korea at the end of 2019 and wanted to cap off our time on this side of the world with a big race/vacation. Cycling on a race track will be such a neat experience and we are so excited for it. Every endurance event always takes us to interesting places in our own heads, so there is that to look forward to. Plus, being gear junkies, we will likely use this race as an excuse to try all sorts of fun things.
Neither of us has ever been to Australia, so be prepared for us to be obnoxious tourists! Vegemite! Pavlovas! Fairy bread! Lamingtons! Tim Tams! Freddo Frogs! Summer in our winter! The toilet flushing the other way! We look forward to seeing Australia, meeting everyone, and participating in the event.”Back to R24 CC
