He’s got a heap of experience in ultra endurance cycling, for example 1,285.2km and 17,514m of climbing in 93 hours during 2013, but his early cycling years doesn’t really foretell such epic feats.
“I grew up in rural Victoria and spent most of my childhood and teen years racing on a club level, with pretty limited success, and fell out of the habit when I moved to Melbourne for Uni. I got back into cycling, after completing my degree, when I did a three month cycling/camping trek through Mongolia and China in 2011 and this trip reignited my passion for cycling.”
So far, so good, but then Joel steps it up a gear:
“Soon after, I completed my first 3 Peaks Challenge in the Victorian High Country and then got involved with long-distance riding through the Audax Australia Cycling club. I have done many 300km, 400km, 600km, 1000km and 1200km events with Audax Australia and done a few of my own, such as riding the Seven Peaks in Victoria in one go and riding 1000km non-stop in 36hrs”.
“I have also done are the three Delirium 24hrs Road Races that I have competed in over in Western Australia. I won the Solo 24hr division in 2013 (743.7km, new course record), 2014 (765.9km, new course record) and came second this year (836.3km) and I am going to approach Revolve24 with similar goals in mind.”
If you want to read more about Joel’s cycling feats then there are a couple more articles that you may wish to look at the following articles: THE CLIMBING CYCLIST and CYCLING TIPS
….and If you want to say ‘hi’ to Joel then come along to Revolve24 at The Bend Motorsport Park in January 2018 and join in the fun!
