So, we had a ‘meeting’. Let’s go Down Under in the middle of European winter and enjoy the heat of the Australian Summer. That worked out well! Well at least we had two Aussies in the team who helped explain that rain and high winds weren't that usual in a South Australian summer! But you know, it didn’t matter. We were proud and delighted to attend the first Revolve24 Down Under - this gave us the opportunity to challenge ourselves in a quite different setting than our steep snow capped mountains!
This team is made up of Middle Aged Men In Lycra who happen to be close friends, having worked together for many years. The experience at Revolve24 was exceptional. This is a totally new feeling on and off the bike. Going around the clock means you have to plan better, push yourself when you would rather stay in the warmth of your sleeping bag and fight against elements not exactly par for the course.
We were surprised how far we rode. The team did really well and the spirit was right up there too, with banter, bonding and laughs throughout despite the serious efforts of the saddle (don’t tell Colin but I think he snores). Clearly there was no competition in the team for who did the fastest lap but I think it was Andrew!!! A big thank you to the organisers for overcoming one or two difficulties in their first year and it was a bit of a long flight for some of us….but we will be back, we loved it!
